We had a brilliant time on Friday evening celebrating the 10th Anniversary of SMRU Consulting!
We were surrounded by friends, partners, colleagues and clients for a great evening of socialising, speeches and prize giving. We had speeches from Ian Boyd who originally set up SMRU Ltd back in 2006, from Derek Watson our CEO and from Carol Sparling our Technical Director for the Europe office. We wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who has helped us to grow into the successful company that we are today.
As part of the 10th Anniversary celebrations we invited staff and students at SMRU to apply for a prize grant in recognition of the support and partnership provided by the Sea Mammal Research Unit. We were delighted to award the 10th Anniversary Prize Grant to Chris McKnight for the project entitled:
Seal Trek: The Next Generation of Animal Borne Sensors – Using NIRS to Shed New Light on Diving Physiology
This project will develop an animal borne NIRS (Near-InfraRed Spectroscopy) sensor system to obtain information on blood oxygen levels and oxygen metabolism. Chris will work with colleagues at Artinis and SMRU Instrumentation to develop the existing wearable Artinis NIRS PortaLite oximetry system so that it can be used on a diving seal. This work will generate valuable insights in diving physiology and will also foster the development of a new marketable bio-logging device.
It’s not often we get everyone together and we were delighted to see so many people join us a for great evening of celebration! Here are a few images from the night:
