Two Operational Modes


BASELINE

MITIGATE

Designed to gather baseline environmental data without the need for real time communications

Designed for real-time marine mammal mitigation and noise monitoring

Data sent to server with ~2 hr time delay

Data sent to base station computer in real-time

Communication via cellular 3G

Communication via radios – either 900 MHz or 2.4 GHz

MARINE MAMMAL MONITORING

Useful for monitoring marine mammal exclusion zones or mitigation of pile-driving and other noisy activities associated with offshore wind, port or terminal construction. Additionally can be used for “slow down” detection monitoring to mitigate acoustic impacts of shipping vessels when marine mammals are present.


NOISE MONITORING

To analyze the short term acoustics of a specific area in question.


SOURCE LEVEL VERIFICATION

Models are used to estimate noise levels at certain distances from underwater activities such as pile-driving, seismic surveys, or construction. These estimates are difficult to calculate due to the complexity of sound underwater and the variety of potential oceanographic conditions. CAB can be used to verify these noise levels at incremental distances from the source.


SCIENTIFIC MONITORING

The desire to understanding and analyze underwater noise is increasing as we realize the importance of anthropogenic acoustic impacts and the importance of sound by marine mammals.
