Project Scientist

Email: eg@smruconsulting.com

Ellie is a Project Scientist for SMRU Consulting, Europe. She joined the team in February 2024 after working as a research assistant at the Scottish Oceans Institute. Her work focused on the development of a fully automated Passive Acoustic Monitoring system to mitigate collisions between harbour porpoises and tidal turbines. During this time, she gained expertise in assessing marine renewable impacts and in programming and statistical analysis to inform marine management plans.

Ellie completed her MSc in Marine Mammal Science at the University of St Andrews in 2023, where she gained a strong background in quantitative marine ecology, bioacoustics, and statistical modelling. Her research interests lie in understanding the effects of anthropogenic stressors on the marine environment with a focus on anthropogenic sound, and behavioral evolution and animal cognition.
